It's easy to make a pitcher when hosting a group of friends, but I wanted to create a delicious recipe using fresh oranges to provide less of a sugar rush.
How to Make Freshly Squeezed Blood Orange Mimosas For Two
Mimosas are simple. Sparkling wine and orange juice. The difference in this recipe is that you are making your own orange juice from fresh oranges and using blood oranges instead of your regular Navel. Before I dive into this very simple recipe, I want to dish out an interesting fact:
It's not Champagne you're using in your mimosa.
Most of us know sparkling wine as Champagne. However, Champagne is the name of a region in France. Sparkling wine is the correct term unless you are buying a wine that was produced in Champagne, France. Here is a simple article from Bon Appetit baking up my snippet of information.

If you look up mimosa recipes you will often find that they are using the correct term sparkling wine. Most of us know mimosas as a drink that you make with "Champagne and orange juice." If it's confusing why sparkling wine seems to be the constantly listed wine of choice instead of Champagne, that is why!
Now onto making the freshly squeezed mimosas!
- 1 187ml Bottle of La Marca Prosecco Sparkling Wine (or your choice of sparkling wine)
- 3-4 Blood oranges, freshly squeezed
- 2 Wine flutes
- Orange slices for garnish (optional)
- Rosemary to garnish (optional)
- Chill your glasses prior to serving for the best mimosas.
- Juice your oranges and remove the pulp ahead of time, then chill.
- When ready to serve your mimosas, pour your sparkling wine about halfway full into a flute.
- Top the remaining half with orange juice.
- Top with your choice of garnishes and serve chilled.
