Growing up I loved making my own stovetop potpourri. Over the years I have found the perfect combination of ingredients that make just the right scent for people to walk into the smell of Christmas. Joel loves the smell of this Christmas potpourri, and I love putting it in a pot for when he gets home from work. It makes for a cozy Christmas environment.
You can use what you have on hand to make this stovetop potpourri.
I mostly used what I had in stock in my kitchen, adding cranberries because I don't keep those in stock. We have an artificial Christmas tree this year, but if you have a real one I highly recommend snipping off a few pieces from that back to throw in the pot! I bought a clear glass pot to make this stovetop potpourri. I love the clear glass to show the ingredients while simmering over the stove since it sits there for hours at a time.
Ingredients You Can Use to Make This Stovetop Potpourri:
- A handful of fresh cranberries
- 2-3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 1-2 fresh oranges, sliced
- 2-3 Fresh Rosemary sprigs
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon of whole cloves
- Dash of Pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups of warm water
How to Make Christmas Stovetop Potpourri:
- Combine all ingredients into a small pot over the stove.
- Add your warm water and gently stir ingredients.
- Turn your heat to medium-low and allow water to come to a low simmer.
- Once the water begins to simmer, turn the heat to the lowest setting and let it sit over the heat for 2-3 hours.
- Check the water level and add 1-2 more cups of water if needed.
- This potpourri will last 1-2 days before you will need to refresh the ingredients.
