How to Make a Smoothie Bowl

how to make a smoothie

If you're not sure how to make a smoothie bowl, there are only two differences. One is that you put it into a bowl and eat it with a spoon instead of a glass to drink. The second difference is that the consistency of a smoothie bowl is thicker to make it easier to eat while a regular smoothie has a bit more liquid to make it easy to drink. There are no right or wrong ways to build a smoothie bowl. The ingredients and toppings are completely customizable to your tastes. The main key is to add as little liquid as your blender will allow, to get that rich thick consistency.

So, you want to know how to make a smoothie bowl as seen on Instagram and Pinterest?

While I will admit there is an art to creating the most picturesque smoothie bowl, you can make one that is extremely tasty, healthy, and beautiful with your own creativity right at home.

5 Steps | How to Make a Smoothie Bowl:

1. Use a high-quality blender. You do not need a Vitamix, but you do need a Ninja, Bullet, or something with a high-powered motor that can withstand the thick consistency.

2. Start with your liquid, but use as little liquid as possible. Even with a high-powered Vitamix blender, I still have to add liquid as I blend, but it's good to start with the liquid as the base. The key is to add as little as possible, knowing that you will still have to add as much as needed to give the blender something to blend.

3. Use frozen items. The colder your ingredients, the thicker the texture of your smoothie will be which is essential to building a smoothie bowl without it melting too quickly. Examples of frozen ingredients to use are frozen bananas, blueberries, and pineapple.

4. Pour into a bowl. I bought these coconut bowls for fun, but you can use any bowl.

5. Add your favorite toppings. I will give my recommendations below in this post!

How to Make a Pretty Smoothie Bowl:

1. Think about your Ingredients. While I typically put spinach or kale in my smoothies, it makes for a brown smoothie bowl. For this recipe, I stuck to a fruit-based bowl instead of using leafy greens. If you're eating a smoothie bowl specifically for the health benefits, having a brown base does not matter. However, for the sake of this post, I am sharing how to make it pretty in addition to being healthy.

2. Create a thick consistency. Not only is a thick smoothie texture important for making it easier to eat, but it also helps hold your toppings at the top of the smoothie bowl.

3. Smooth out your smoothie before adding toppings. You will want to pour your mixture into your bowl, then use a spoon and smooth the top. This will create a nice pretty, smooth top to align your toppings on.

4. Align your toppings in a line. I add my toppings one at a time, arranging them into a straight line and they will have their own individual display on top of the bowl.

5. Drizzle honey or nut butter. I didn't drizzle my nut butter in this post, but typically I do and it adds a nice aesthetic. For this smoothie I let the nut butter sit on one side and melt into the bowl.
