I'm already getting ideas for a modern fire pit, because while fall typically comes pretty quickly with stores starting to put out fall decor on the shelves before August even hits, this year, fall is quite literally already in the air. The weather around here has started to really cool off in that fall-feeling way, and it’s giving me all the feels for our backyard nights this fall. I’ve been looking up ideas for a backyard firepit, specifically on Amazon, and want to find a modern look. There are lots of modern options these days from gas-fired to wood-fired, depending on your style.

STONE TABLETOP FIRE BOWL
If you don't have the space for a fire pit or the budget, a fire bowl that fits on top of your table is a great fit to make your backyard space feel cozier! You can use this tabletop bowl to roast marshmallows and it comes in several stone color options as well.
FIRE PIT CHIMNEY
This chimney-style fire pit is a sleek and modern addition to any outdoor space. I imagine this style of fire pit to be paired within a gravel setting spaced off with clean lines to define an eating area complete with a sofa set and dining table.
How do I make my backyard cozier with a modern fire pit?
1. COMFORTABLE SEATING
Once you have your firepit in your backyard, it’s time to make the surrounding area cozy and inviting. Starting with comfortable seating. Invest in comfortable outdoor furniture such as plush chairs, sofas, or even a hammock. Be sure to add cushions and pillows for added coziness.
2. OUTDOOR LIGHTING
Install soft, warm lighting to create a cozy atmosphere. String lights are my favorite way to create an ambiance during the evenings.
3. FIREPIT
On the topic of this entire post, a modern fire pit is a great addition to any backyard patio or outdoor space to create a cozy vibe. It creates a focal point and centers a seating area to make it feel inviting for you and your guests to stay, sip your favorite drink or coffee, and relax over good conversation. Also to state the obvious, it can be used as a functional way to warm a cooler evening.
4. NATURAL ELEMENTS
I love an outdoor space to feel truly natural and one with nature. While the addition of furniture isn't entirely natural, I love finding wooden furniture, firewood stacks, and plants that still give me a natural feeling without adding elements that feel out of place to the surroundings. This definitely makes things feel cozier to us.
5. COZY TEXTILES
Add throws, blankets, or an outdoor rug to make your seating areas more inviting. I use weather-resistant materials so that they survive over time, but I still put the pillows away when not in use and use furniture covers to prolong their lifespan. A rug can help center the space OR if you are using gravel around the firepit, this works just as well to center everything together.
6. PRIVACY
There is nothing worse than feeling exposed when you want to curl up and get cozy around a firepit. If you have close neighbors, create a sense of privacy by using fences or tall plants to enclose your backyard space. This can make it feel more intimate and secluded.
5. DINING AREA
If you enjoy cooking and entertaining, consider adding an outdoor kitchen or a small cooking area. This will not only enhance the coziness but also make it convenient for outdoor dining experiences. We haven't invested in a full-on kitchen area yet, but did install a portable Ooni Pizza Oven which we love and use all of the time. We built a white oak table to keep the oven on with additional space next to it for prepping the pizzas and other food that we cook in the oven.
