Every year I dream of having a beautifully set table for Thanksgiving. One with the perfect flowers, hand-drawn place cards for each person attending, and a dinner full of good food over good conversation. This year is the year that a few close friends and I decided to pull it off.
These Thanksgiving place cards were surprisingly easy to make!
With a little help from Pinterest, I collected ideas to get inspiration and then worked with materials that I had around the house. I used card stock that I had in stock (pun intended), trace paper, and linen ribbon that I had left over from previous projects. I ordered dried Pompous stems from Amazon to accent the cards. Hilary of Vessel and Stem for making the beautiful floral arrangement!

You Will Need:
- Cardstock
- Trace Paper
- Paper cutter
- Scissors
- Dried Flower Stems
- Calligraphy Pen
- Ribbon
- Hole Punch
How to Make these Place Cards:
- Cut your card stock into 4×3 in rectangles. Follow the same sizing with your trace paper cutting one of each per person.
- Take one card stock rectangle along with one trace paper rectangle and align them slightly off-center allowing the trace paper to hang over the right side of the card stock.
- Take your hole punch and punch a hole in the top left corner of both sheets.
- Using a calligraphy pen or pen of choice, draw your name. If you aren’t confident in your handwriting (been there), you can use a pencil then trace over your writing with a pen.
- Once you have written the desired name on the card, it’s time to add your ribbon. Originally, I thought about tying the ribbon. You can play around with different styles to see the look you like best. For me, I took a 12-inch linen ribbon, folded it in half, then weeded the folded part slightly through the hole of the cards and left it as it. I really liked the look of it as seen in the photos from the post.
- Add your dried flower stem of choice. You can add dried flowers, oranges, wheatgrass, anything that compliments your table settings. If you aren’t sure, I recommend creating a Pinterest board of inspiration for your table to help get a visual of the overall picture. That is what I did!
- Repeat the above steps for each card.
- Once the cards are complete, place them on the plate or on the table for each person attending your dinner.
Here is a tip for getting better hand-writing!
If you’re not completely confident in your hand-writing and don’t have enough time to learn calligraphy, you can use your trace paper as a hack! You can open a document in Canva, select the font you love the most with each of your names, then print it out. From here, you will use your trace paper on each card to lay it over the printed out font and trace over with a pencil. Next, you will use your calligraphy pen or pen of choice, and draw overtime of the traced pencil!
